Why do you walk forward with your shopping cart while looking to the side at what is on the aisle?
Don’t you think this would increase your chances of hitting someone else, another shopping cart, or an impulse buy display?
Usually I do this because I’m in a hurry…but normally, I actually ENJOY grocery shopping (total foodie – so sue me!), so I stop a lot. I have yet to run into anything – although I’ve come close, I guess, a few times!

Because if you walk backwards with your shopping cart, you’d surely bump into things. And if you pulled your cart in front holding onto the basket, you’d have to turn around to put things in it. So it seems thats just the easiest way.
